India’s First Electric Highway Goes Live!

On the 14th of Feb, 2017, the IEVRA (India Electric Vehicle Race Association) along with Rexnamo Electro Private Limited launched the nation’s first Electric Highway – a network of fast chargers spanning the national capital region in the north to Himalayas (Uttarakhand).  The Electric Highway consists of a total of 12 fast chargers, allowing a 30 minute recharge to about 80% capacity for most EVs.

This project was conceived by members of the Delhi NCR (Ghaziabad) branch of the IEVRA and Rexnamo, and was taken up by the Rexnamo in June last year.

The chargers consist of a 43 kW Fast AC option (Type-Two, or Mennekes connector, suits Rexnamo Super Cruiser Bike) and two 50 kW Fast DC options – SAE Combo for the BMW i3 and ChaDeMo for Japanese makes of car.  A slow charger is also located at each station, able to deliver up to 7 kW.  A humble 15 amp GPO is also available.

The first four charging stations were unveiled on Monday, completing the route from Delhi to Nainital via Kathgodam, Bhowali and Rudrapur.  An additional 8 chargers will be installed in the coming months, with Chandigarh, Dehradun, Meerut, Gurgaon, Faridabad and Noida next on the list. The Final Charger is Installed At Casa Dream The Resort in Mukteshwar, Dist. Nainital. www.casadream.in

It is widely expected to boost interest in EVs, and potentially EV sales in the regions.  For more information, visit the Rexnamo’s website.

    Hi Naman,
Great Stuff. I am planning to buy a old/scrapped Maruti Gypsy, would be able to convert it into a electric. I have seen similar projects on TV where an old Camaro is converted into electric.
I am assuming you will be stripping off the all the Mechanical moving parts: like Engine and replace with a electric motor.
Can you give you an in site on how you will be going about.
